"Den Långa Vandringen" is a hiking concept for people with various disabilities. The concept came about in connection with the Year of Outdoor Life 2021. There are two main purposes for these hikes. One is to enable the target group to experience wilderness and outdoor life under controlled conditions. The other is to promote social relationships between participants and fellow hikers and contribute to creating meaningful leisure time where physical activity is promoted. Both of these purposes are especially important for a social group where isolation, mental illness and physical inactivity are common.
Anders Andrae is the initiator of Den Långa Vandringen on the Cykelvasaleden (95 km) between Berga By and Mora in Dalarna, which was organized between 2021-2023. During 2024-2025, the concept was further developed with Naturens Hemligheter as the organizer and took the hike to more locations in Sweden. One of these was the hike along the St. Olavsleden between Östersund - Åre in Jämtland (120 km). This is probably the world's longest organized hiking event for people with disabilities! The planning of that hike began in 2023 when Anders Andrae and Linus Palmqvist (Naturens Hemligheter) hiked/rolled the route with the aim of mapping the accessibility of the trail, and coming up with an action plan for improved wheelchair accessibility. The project received media attention and also served to increase the already great interest in this type of hike. The goal coming years is to arrange Den Långa Vandringen on even more places to highlight the need for accessible nature all over Sweden. Den Långa Vandringen continues to be the world's leading walking event for people with different functional variations. We are very proud of that!
The Skogstur Association was founded in 2015 and has as its main purpose to enable people with disabilities to get out into nature and experience community through various activities, where hikes in the forest and land are in focus.
Linus Palmqvist
Naturens Hemligheter (The secrets of nature) was founded in 2018 by three dedicated outdoor enthusiasts and is currently run by Linus Palmqvist. The company organizes events and workshops with a focus on outdoor life, outdoor education and outdoor cooking. Naturens Hemligheter is unique with its cutting-edge expertise in outdoor life and gastronomy combined with a background as teachers. Over the past five years, Naturens Hemligheter has worked actively to create events that are accessible to everyone, regardless of disabilities.
Anders Andrae
Willut is run by wheelchair-bound adventurer Anders Andrae. Willut offers forest walks and events in forest and archipelago environments, as well as lectures and inventories with a focus on accessibility.
Our fantastic service team from WeRunSweden is on site during all editions of Den Långa Vandringen. WeRunSweden is the Swedish dealer of the all-terrain electric wheelchair Zoom Uphill. During Den Långa Vandringen they help with, among other things, the transfer of participants and service of electric wheelchairs.
